Year 1996 -1997 gave birth to the Seniors Citizens Program which began its humble beginnings at IACA (Indian American Cultural Association), led by Chairman at the Board of Directors Vikas Verma where Raj Razdan served on the board. They discussed the concerns of the fast growing senior community in Atlanta; SCP Inc. is a not-for-profit organization that provides services to the seniors of Atlanta.
The areas of major focus for SCP are loneliness, lack of mobility, lack of health care benefits, healthcare access, awareness and advocacy, dependence on children, physical disability, cultural shock, handicapped thinking process and transportation, mental health, English classes and basic computer skills training. All our programs focus on and assist our seniors with various needs in these areas; through direct services as well as referrals. All of our programs and services are free and are provided by culturally competent volunteers who speak Hindi, Urdu, Punjabi, Gujarati, Kashmiri and Marathi.
Since our inception, we have
- Provided counseling support for families
- Completed a comprehensive needs assessment survey of the community and released Unlocking the Golden Door
- Received the Gandhi foundation Award
